Words

Every word this manual uses for SynthMaker's own things, one line each, and the page that explains it. A word with a dotted line under it, on any page, links here.

Patch
The picture of a sound in SynthMaker: its modules as boxes and the wires between them. You can open, rewire and change everything there. A wire that knows it's a bus →
module
One box in the Patch: an Oscillator, a Filter, an Envelope, a Delay. Its knobs are its settings. A wire that knows it's a bus →
module of your own
A module you make from other modules (Make Module), or start from code or from a circuit. You can open it to see and change what's inside. Your first face, in SwiftUI →
face
The front panel of a module of your own: the knobs, buttons, pads and words someone plays, with the wiring hidden behind it, like the front of a hardware synth. Your first face, in SwiftUI →
view
One piece of a face, named as in SwiftUI: a VStack, an HStack, a Text, a Knob, a Button. Your first face, in SwiftUI →
modifier
A change to the view before it, as in SwiftUI: .padding, .font, .background. They apply in the order written. Modifiers →
grid of pads
A face's block of pads, rows by columns, made as SwiftUI makes one: a LazyVGrid of a ForEach of one Button. A wire that knows it's a bus →
Pad
The module behind a face's Button (or a whole grid): its outputs are what a press sends, its input isLit is its light. Presses are messages →
message
What a press sends down a green wire: on, off, or a tap. Notes, Chords, Tracks and the Transport act on them. Presses are messages →
bus
A wire carrying a grid's tagged messages: thicker, green, labelled with the grid's name and its pads (Chords ×16). A wire that knows it's a bus →
tag
What a grid's message says about where it came from: which grid, and which pad (Chords 3). In code: chordPads.chords[3]. A wire that knows it's a bus →
list
A Chord's, Note's or Track's rows when a bus is wired in: one row per pad, each saying what that pad plays. A row for every pad →
circuit
A module made of electronic parts (resistors, capacitors, diodes, op-amps, transistors), simulated sample by sample. Your first circuit →
parts list
A circuit's text: one part per line, its name, the two points it joins, and its value (R1 in a 2.2k). Your first circuit →
schematic
A circuit drawn with its parts' symbols, made from its parts list. Read-only: you change the circuit in the parts list. Your first circuit →
setting
A knob of a module. In a circuit, a setting line makes a knob that turns one of its parts. Parts you can turn →
SMPL
SynthMaker Patch Language: a sound as text, one module per line and one line per wire, that you can read, type and send. Your sound as code →
Code view
The sound as SMPL, beside the Patch or on its own: type in it and the sound changes. Your sound as code →
Code module
A module you write yourself: a few lines of maths that run for every sample of every note. Code modules →
Screen
The module that shows a picture: wire a shader pattern into it and it draws on its card, and over the Patch while the sound plays. A pattern from steps →
field
A shader pattern's number for every point of the picture: ask it anywhere and it answers, smoothly changing from place to place. A pattern from steps →
